A MUD, or Multi-User Dungeon, is a multiplayer text-based game played over the Internet. As the pre-cursors to modern graphical MMOs (Massively-Multiplayer Online games), MUDs still have a number of advantages over MMOs including much faster development time, easier building/extension capabilities, and (for some) a more satisfying user interface experience.
